By using the right type of brush, the soft grain can be removed from wood giving it an antique look. Woods such as oak and pine are particularly suitable for this technique. Two brush types are used: metal wire brushes and nylon filament brushes. The nylon filament brushes contain a grit 46 abrasive. These brushes are often used together, but the optimum result is obtained by adding a third brush, a Cosma sanding brush. This third brush carefully removes any damage caused by the distressing brushes, leaving the product ready for oiling or lacquering.
